Send change of address cards
It’s very important to notify friends, relatives, former employers for pensions, but also the post office and magazine subscriptions that you are changing your current location. It might not seem crucial information at first, but it’s definitely something you need to take into consideration. This is something we should all have on our moving checklist.
Obtain your medical records
You might be moving to another doctor too, so you want to acquire the current medical records. Go to the dentist, general practitioner and optometrist, as well as any other doctors. Then you can take the medical records and share them with your new doctor. You also want to notify the insurance companies like health, auto, homeowner or life insurance providers.
Disconnect utilities
You want to disconnect utilities like water, electric, gas/fuel, lawn care and trash removal, but also cable, internet and anything else you have running at the current property. Some of these service providers might allow you to move the service to the new location. In most cases though, you will have to disconnect and then you can easily create a new contract for the other location.
Notify Insurance Companies
It’s important you notify your insurance company and transfer your insurance policy to the new home. If you have life insurance, auto and health insurance policies under old address. You should let them know that you will be moving. So, you won’t miss any important information and service bills that might interrupt your insurance coverage.
Transfer bank accounts and memberships
Another moving checklist PDF topic is definitely transferring bank accounts. If you move to another region, this is very helpful. You can transfer the checking and savings accounts, but also your safe deposit box, if you have one. It’s also a good idea to transfer memberships, such as churches, country club, civic organizations or health clubs.
Acquire the documents you need
You will need certain documents for various contracts and other requirements. These include things like school records for kids, baptism records for the family members, birth records, legal records and so on. You also need to know if any documents have to be re-done or rewritten if you move across the state lines.
Aside from that, you also have miscellaneous tasks like notifying the draft board if you are a veteran or getting the prescriptions refilled. You may also want to leave the keys and other legal papers with the realtor. In addition, you want to get the car tuned up for the trip.
